My name is Faye and I’m a diabetes robot.

Well, not really…I may look like one with an OmniPod and DexCom sensor and receiver attached to me, but I sure as heck don’t act like one. I’ve had type 1 diabetes since I was 9 years old (I’m now 25), but I’m constantly trying new things and technology to make the most out of this roller coaster ride. Diabetes is the formerly annoying friend I’ve come to love.

So why Sugarbump? I have to give my husband Chris the credit for that one. Back when we first started dating, I was uber self-conscious of what I called my “bump”– aka the mound of scar tissue from years of multiple daily injections. Bump would stick out and make it known he was around and wasn’t going anywhere. Chris, being Chris, gave Bump an official name (Bumpschlagen), a background history (don’t ask; it’s too weird even for me, haha), and even sings happy birthday to him on May 29th. Bump is a symbol of my struggles, challenges, ups and downs, successes, and everything I’ve gone through to be where I am now. In honor of that and one of my greatest supporters, I decided to call my blog Sugarbump.

Please be advised that I’m not a medical professional in any way, shape, or form. I’m just a regular gal with 16 years of experience under my belt. ;)
