The Ups and Downs

October 11, 2009

This past week was full of ups and downs, mainly with my bg going CRAZY for no apparent reason. Like this, taken a few seconds ago:

I mean, seriously?! What the heck? I spiked from 70 to over 200 in less than 3 hours, and I haven’t even eaten dinner yet! No amount of bolus seemed to work.

These are just one of the frustrations that pepper my otherwise boring existence. I guess you could say it adds excitement to my life, but I prefer the excitement of waking up at 7am and finding out that I was holding steady around 110-120 the entire night. That, my friends, is exciting to me (and to Chris, who wakes up randomly in the middle of the night to check on me– you know, make sure I’m still alive).

Now that that’s off my chest, it’s time to continue watching Sunday Night Football and make some dinner (shrimp, one of our favorites)!

Happy October! Since today is the day we cannot mention You-Know-What, I’m going to talk about another thing that consumes my life!

Chris and I love to travel. I blame it on the fact that I was born in the Philippines and had my first passport at the age of two (when my parents and I moved to the States). Domestic, international, regional…we’re always looking for an excuse to go somewhere and to explore new places.

Our first big trip together (actually, our first trip together, period) was during spring break of our senior year in college. We went on a fabulous Contiki tour all over Italy. It was great, we met a bunch of new friends, and best of all, we managed not to kill each other after spending 16 days together. Big step in a relationship, huh? ;)

Florence holds a place near and dear to my heart. And here we are! Don’t mind that weird look on my face…it was VERY windy that day!

Florence holds a special place in my heart because well…that’s where I realized I loved Chris. I mean, I knew he was going to be my husband when we both went to Costco, very early in our relationship, ate our hot dogs plain (Polish sausage, yum!), and used the condensation on our soda cups to “wash” our hands. Of course, I didn’t tell him that. But it was in Florence when it hit me full force like, holy crap, I love this guy— overlooking the Arno River just as the sun slipped below the horizon. And of course, I didn’t tell him that either. But obviously now he knows.

Who knows where our future will take us? All I know is that we haven’t gone on our honeymoon yet, since Chris started the second semester of his first year in pharmacy school two days after our wedding, BUT we’re saving it all up for a huge trip in 2012. It’ll be a combination honeymoon-graduation trip. And possibly one last hoorah before we get started on our family.

Here’s to the other things that consume our lives…the things that are more fun to handle than that d-thing!
